Word of the Year 2020

It’s almost 2020, can you believe it? Who knew we would make it to this very symmetrical milestone of 2020! The end of a decade and 20 years into the millennium! As we move forward into all that this year has to offer, it may help to have a word to guide us through our journeys and adventures — trips we take internally within our souls or within the circumstances of our lives or on actual road trips across the country! YES to all of the above!

A Word of the Year can be like a beacon and anchor to guide us when we feel ourselves in turmoil or spinning out but also to a place to lean into and to say YES to when we are receiving great JOY!

This past year, my word was TRUST. Oh how I leaned on that word over and over and over again. It was like a comforting friend to turn to that word perhaps almost daily in this life to reassure me or give me courage or grant me patience. I find that each year’s word travels with me into the next.

This year, my Word of the Year is BLESSED! I have never actually chosen the word that I have so embraced in my art and blogging as my actual Word of the Year! So after much, much, much deliberation about what my Word should be, this is the word I have chosen, and I could not be happier. What seemed so very complicated in the choosing suddenly became clear when I realized that BLESSED embodied all of the other words that I was thinking about but couldn’t land on — grace, abundance, cleave, connected, align, etc.

BLESSED has the right buoyancy of lightness and solidity that I’m looking for this year. Yes, for me, the word BLESSED will serve as a great guiding mantra throughout 2020 and for the rest of my life!

Now...you go! Please post your Word of the Year in the Comments section below. The sharing is part of this wonderful, annual ritual of community! Invite your friends to share.

For those of you who have participated before, you know what to do! Please share your word with us in the comments section below. For those who are new, think of a word that will inspire, motivate, cajole, catapult, launch and ignite you throughout the year! I so look forward to reading everyone’s Word this year — I know many of us have had preliminary discussions, and I’m excited to finally read what your word will be! (For those who need some ideas for words, you can look back through the December archives on this blog to see some of the words that people have chosen in years past.)

Lastly, I want to share a sincere thank you to all of you who have read and commented on my blog this year and all of the years prior, for all of you who have been inspired by and/or purchased my artwork, and for everyone who has loved me and who I call friend. May God RICHLY BLESS you in expected and unexpected ways in 2020!!

Much love,
Blessed (for sure)

Ok I can't remember what my word was last year, so I hope this isn't a repeat (but if it is, I'm still going with it because I need to work on it) - going with "present" and working to focus on living in the present, appreciating what I have and living in the moment.

I was thinking about this last night in anticipation of your prompt!

I’m going with EMBRACE. To embrace all the new changes that have happened with my family and friends with grace, and also embrace those close to me, as well as people that I do not know and encounter in life! Love you Jane 😍 Happy New Year!!

Thanks Jane for a great lead into a Blessed 2020. I’m going to reclaim my 2019 word. It helped energize me and Increase my ability to receive more goodness in the air. And more to go in 2020 with BLISS.

I really appreciate the clear vision and flow in your writing. Thanks for continuing this inspiring and helpful word power tradition.

The word TRUST kept coming up for me for 2020 but it did not have enough depth or breadth to satisfy. This “marinating” (as Elizabeth M. aptly wrote) led to my word for the year ABIDE, for trust is implicit within it.

Jane, I always love reading your writings. Thank you! XOXO
My word for the year is GRATEFUL. I am grateful beyond words to my family, dear friends, medical staff and all of the loving powers that surround us for carrying me through a physically and emotionally challenging year.
I’m one lucky gal who is beholden to so many. Happy 2020 to all!

My word is CONNECT. I have been realizing that I have been shrinking back into a lonely world. I need to get back out there! Thanks for making me think.

A bit late to post, but my word was chosen on New Year's Day. I am choosing Enjoy (joy being the best part of the word). My little guy has chosen Chocolate, which when announced brought me great joy :-) Happy New Year!

Hi again all, I’ve been trying to use my word “abide” which I posted as my word for the year but am finding I have little capacity to fulfill it. I am changing my word to “attune” which means I’ll practice being present to each person, each situation I’m with or in as well as tuning in to the Spirit within. New word: ATTUNE

I hope I'm not too late to add my word..... It is CHANGE. I have been struggling with Gandhi's quote "Be the change you want to see in the world". Oh my! It is difficult.
