Word of the Year 2019

It is nearly 2019, and so much has happened for all of us in just one year! If you are like me at all, this past year yielded things you hoped for and brought the unexpected. Things were let go of, and losses were suffered. I moved on, remained stuck, struggled and thrived. A lot can happen in a year! Thankfully, my word for 2018 was FAITH. Faith, I uttered to myself, as I faced something new or uncertain. It served me well, and like so many other words I’ve chosen, it is a word for a lifetime.

Now, a hopeful story. Every year I hear about someone who particularly excelled with their word. This past year, one of our participants chose the word RESOLVE. She said she chose this word because she wanted to “tie up loose ends” in her life. She wanted her home, financial, work and personal life to become more organized and secure and to take the steps that would accomplish this. Little did she know that big changes were about to occur in her work and home life. Two of those changes included a new boss and evolving work role. These changes caused her to “dive in”, as she said, and assume new leadership roles. During a recent FaceTime conversation she said to me, “It’s official! I have become my Word!” I said, “Do tell?” She was smiling.

It turns out that her boss sent her a bottle of wine for Christmas and the label read “Resolute”.

Fantastic!

In a note, her boss said he chose the wine for her because it aptly described who she had become. She said to me, “I am my Word! It’s so nice when momentum is recognized!”

Amen and Amen. Embodying our word to the point that others recognize it in us (without even knowing that was essentially our Word of the Year) is noteworthy.

Listen, for 2019, I hope your chosen word is one that will comfort, guide, aid, inspire and direct you toward the highest good that you are seeking. I hope that the mere utterance of your word will bring reassurance that you are moving forward with all of your God-given desires and talents. I wish you all of that and more, and maybe, just maybe, someone will recognize your word in you!

My word for 2019 is TRUST. Yes, I want to trust the people, places and things that are worthy of trusting. Most of all, I want to continue to trust God.

NOW...we are all excited to hear about your words! Before midnight tonight if you can (or tomorrow), please list your word and a bit about why you chose it in the comments section below. This way we can all share and enjoy our words together!

May God richly bless and comfort you in the year ahead.
Much love,
Blessed

Dear Jane,
What a beautiful, inspiring piece you shared. I will read it repeatedly throughout the year to feel the comfort that swept over me on my first reading. I take your "Word for the Year" invitation seriously. As such, I pondered for quite a long time searching for the right word for 2019, knowing I needed it to be a gentle word that felt like an inspiring walk on the beach....my favorite go-to place. My guiding word for 2019 is REFLECT. I plan to be disciplined enough to reflect daily on what matters to me and how each mattering is serving me in this precious life. Some things that emerge may need to be released, some pondered further, and some will hopefully fill my heart with joy and gratitude. With Love, Olivia (Aunt Mudi-O)

I think my word for 2019 chose me; not the other way around. I can't say I'm entirely happy about it, but I'll have to mine it for riches. The word is QUIET. It's just the way things are right now.

My word of the year will be "plan/planning" - home projects, travel, relationship logistics, etc.

Tims word of the year will be "risk"...he said he'd start by doing a backflip in on his ski trip in Aspen later this month....

Thank you, Jane, for requesting that we each reflect and choose a new "Word of the Year". With some hesitancy to post a word that is not positive and happy, I am honestly choosing the word that keeps coming to mind for 2019. Usually, I am full of optimism and excitement regarding what a new year will bring my way. In spite of my original annual chosen words, each year brings its own word when I reflect over the previous 12 months. 2017 was "Exhausting"; some positive experiences (lots of fun travels; 10 out of 12 months) and some sad and disheartening (losing my oldest brother in January and losing our beautiful rental on Kauai). 2018 was a "Whirlwind". It takes a lot of logistics and planning to relocate almost 5,000 and start from scratch. So, since the two previous years have been full of unexpected and life changing events, I am going with....

TREPIDATION
nountrep·i·da·tion\ˌtre-pə-ˈdā-shən\

1 : a nervous or fearful feeling of uncertain agitation : apprehension

Each day we go within ourselves and connect to the pure love of god, we enrich the entire World….And it needs it.

As I reach into the Angelic realm of Love for humanity for this year’s word, I choose
Emmanuel
Which translates to God is With Us
Thank you Jane for encouraging my writing, inspiring my spirit and challenging yourself and us to create a better World with art and our authentic selves.

When the small magazine rack is bursting with stuff like 2015 Chautauqua Institute program schedules, the generously sized storage closet is continually birthing random never-to-be-used items, and my apartment's second bedroom has been turned into a "dump it here, put away later" place, my word by necessity is ORGANIZE.
Good news - I spent three hours on New Year's eve using my word!

I saw Mary Poppins today and felt so much Joy exponentiated by the audience feelings, too. To help me remember and stretch my Joy capacities, for 2019, I choose Bliss.

My 2018 had many ups and downs that my emotions would swing with. I found these swings to be exhausting at times and I am sure some of my decisions weren't always the best. My word for 2019 is "Balance".

My word this year is Clear.

Clear my time for people who are important to me.
Clear my schedule of distractions.
Clear the clutter, mental and physical.
Be clear in my expectations and speech.

The word gives me a peaceful feeling. Reminds me of clear skies, water, sunshine. Open space. It gives me a feeling of comfort, as if a weight has been lifted.
