Yes, that's right. Making art can be one time in your life when you just let your thoughts flow, and follow the ideas that stream in your consciousness.
Sometimes we get stopped by our ideas and struggle over whether we should add something to a piece or not, but this struggle can interfere with our process. We over think it, and this stops our flow.
Example: You might be painting a mandala and you think "I wonder if I should put yellow flowers around the border?" But then, instead of just adding the flowers, you obsess for an hour about whether or not to do this, and you start to become afraid of what will happen if you do and if you don't. Will it ruin my painting? Then you become afraid of making other creative moves in your piece.
This approach hinders rather than releases us.
I can tell you from experience that if you just keep doing the things that come up in your mind as you create art, your piece will really flow and have more depth.
So when you have the thoughts "Should I put a gem in the middle of the mandala?" The answer is YES! "Should I add stars in the corners?" YES!
This, my friends, is the key to flow.
The next time you create art...don't think. Just create!!
